QUB Student's & Activists March to the U.S. Embassy in Belfast. Say No to Imperialism!

Over a hundred or more people made their way to the U.S. Embassy from Queens University, which was the site of outrageous scenes just months ago at the hands of PSNI leading to the arrest of activists

On Saturday, a hundred or more people gathered at Queens at a march organized by the QUB Palestine Assembly in solidarity with Palestine but also highlighting the struggle at home against the imperialist machine, especially those students who continue to have charges held against their names for protesting war criminal Hillary Clinton's visit to both Ulster and Queens Uni Campuses.

Along with the clampdowns and the trumped-up charges the positioning of the US war machine on the island and using it as a transit hub has been brought to the fore of discussion in the past weeks and months especially as the question of Irish ‘Neutrality’ comes under ever more scrutiny.

The island’s comprador political class continues to facilitate the use of Irish territory both for the manufacturing of weapons and weapon munitions and for the transit of equipment and military personnel across the globe, Palestine and Ukraine being the most recent.

Thales Belfast, a weapons manufacturer announced by Invest NI and is set to expand its operations in the north, recently received an order of £1.6 billion for 5000 Light Multirole Missiles (LMM) destined for Ukraine.

This company has also had a part to play in the supply and manufacturing of parts later used in the genocide of Palestinians. Calls for the end of the continued transit of US troops and equipment through Shannon and Aldergrove at the RAF base continue to be sounded.

Crackdowns on activists don’t just stop and start in the US or Europe; they have also been happening in Scotland with the crackdown against activists enacting their rights in standing against genocide with their BDS action at Home Bargains at Aberdeen Beach. Scottish police arrived and began to employ heavy-handed tactics against the activists who were peacefully partaking in direct actions by highlighting the ongoing funding of genocide and occupation through the sale of blood products at Home Bargains.

The Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign slammed the criminal behavior of police on the day; 6 activists still face charges, with one being remanded in custody for refusing bail conditions.

“The disproportionate and again heavy-handed response by Police Scotland, including one armed police officer, highlights the continued efforts by Police Scotland to harass, intimidate, and intentionally attempt to prevent people exercising their lawful right to protest.

“We call on all in our community, the students, academic staff, trade unions members, workers, and everyone who believes in human rights and in doing the right thing to stand with us in resisting all forms of repression.” Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign

Activists in Scotland continue to rally in solidarity with the activists, who remain on the right side of history, those who walk the halls of power and their stooges in the police continue to chip away at the rights and liberties of the people in attempts at the criminalization of protest and in support of their joint adventure in the genocide and occupation of Palestine.

Police continue to hound activists in an attempt to cause a chilling effect to try stop any “would-be protestors” or ordinary people from voicing their discontent and anger.

It’s Palestine solidarity activists today, but what about tomorrow?

This is also a wider sign of the rot and perpetual crises of the capitalist system we find ourselves. This will progress, and so will the tendency for ever more authoritarian measures in a continued attack on the ordinary people.
